English

English means belonging or relating to England, or to its people, language, or culture. It is also often used to mean belonging or relating to Great Britain, although many people object to this... the English way of life.

Geoffrey Chaucer is considered to be the father of the English language. He was born in London sometime between 1340 and 1344 to a wealthy family. An English author, poet, and philosopher, he also pursued a career in the civil service as a diplomat, member of parliament, bureaucrat, and courtier.

Winston Churchill is arguably the most famous public speaker of them all, mostly due to the pivotal role that he played in leading the British through the Second World War.

According to a new report by EF Education First, an international education company, Northern Europeans are the most fluent (the Netherlands tops the rankings, followed by Sweden, Norway and Denmark). Middle Easterners are the least proficient (Iraq, Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia all rank near the bottom).
